The Space Trilogy (Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, That Hideous Strength) by C.S. Lewis (2011) Paperback Free Pdf

ISBN: B00ZAT776G
Title: The Space Trilogy (Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, That Hideous Strength) by C.S. Lewis (2011) Paperback Pdf
This set includes all 3 books in the C.S. Lewis space trilogy which began with Out of the Silent Planet, continued with Perelandra, & concludes with That Hideous Strength. Hours of great reading!

What a Series Ought to Be This is my favorite of the space trilogy, because Lewis uses his considerable talents to reimagine a familiar story. It's experimental and combines the mythic, the theological, the speculative, and science fiction, with some fairy tale as well, and everyday humor and political commentary. We've got a thriller, too, and artistic contemplation of the Beautiful and Pure. So much going on! I'd call this the artist's book of the three, with the first the everyday citizen's work and the third the scientist/philosopher/prophet's work. Lewis sets the ground work in Out of the Silent Planet (Space Trilogy), flies into realms of imagination with PERELANDRA, and brings it all heavily (and heavenly) home in That Hideous Strength (Space Trilogy, Book 3). You might find one title appeals to you particularly, but allow the others to stretch your imagination and speculation. The variety here is what a book series OUGHT to have, not just reiterations of the same story over and again. The three novels combine to give a story as complex as the universe we inhabit.Lewis lecture one" and enjoy this incredibly generous series I rate this book 5-stars in context as the second book of the trilogy. I wrote a 5-star Goodreads review of C. S. Lewis' entire space trilogy when I completed the 3rd book "That Hideous Strength." Here is that Goodreads review: WHICH FOLLOWS: I just finished reading all three of CS Lewis' Space Trilogy back-to-back (published in 1938, 1943, and 1945) over the past few weeks. First caution, don't start with the 3rd book in the trilogy. The trilogy is a masterpiece, but jumping into the 3rd book will seriously shortchange what you will understand if you read all three in order. Second caution, don't start with the 2nd book in the trilogy. The series geometrically builds the cast, plot, and stakes book-by-book. A shortcut only shortchanges you. That said, this magnificent trilogy builds a fictional setting of interlocking stories that culminate, in the third, by illustrating that hideous strength which Lewis later describes in the tiny prose book: The Abolition of Man (1947). My interest in reading the trilogy after reading The Abolition of Man was piqued by the first of the seven (highest-quality HD) video lecture series on C. S. Lewis, all of which are presented free and streaming: just google "Hillsdale College C. S. Lewis lecture one" and enjoy this incredibly generous series. For the purpose of this book review, and for your greatest enjoyment, don't go past video lecture one and its Q&A session, but go from there to read The Abolition of Man (one-hour read), then the space trilogy in order. After you're done, return to the free lecture series 2 through 7. In this order you'll maximize enjoyment of this banquet, without any spoilers. You don't have to be smart or anything. The fire warms you! This is one of the finest books that I have read in my entire life. I read this book when I was in my late teens and at that time the entire "Cosmic Trilogy" of C.S. Lewis had a great impact on me and my spiritual life. Just recently, about forty years later, I felt a strong urge to re-read the book. This second reading was even more moving than the first time I read the book. I intend to continue reading the other two books "Perelandra" and "That Hidden Strength". C.S. Lewis had the ability to write about the fabulous and unbelievable, in other words in this trilogy about voyages to other planets and encounters with the planet's inhabitants, just like J.R.R. Tolkien had the ability to write about fairies, hobbits, elves, orcs, and such! Both men were blessed with the incredible gift of being able to write about fantastical and imaginary characters and to bring them to live in their books, and in doing so, conveying from the heart of the author to the heart of the reader the most lovely spiritual revelation. Often more can be taught through fiction than the most scholarly and academic non-fiction books. I believe this is because God is love and light, and so we need men and women who can open our hearts to the love and our minds to the light, to teach us about true reality. “Like when you sit in front of a fire in winter — you are just there in front of the fire. You don't have to be smart or anything. The fire warms you.”― Desmond Tutu

Moon Glacier National Park (Travel Guide) Free Pdf

ISBN: 1631214896
Title: Moon Glacier National Park (Travel Guide) Pdf

Becky Lomax was three years old when her parents first took her to stay with friends who worked as rangers at Two Medicine Lake in Glacier National Park. During college, Becky worked two summers in the historic Glacier Park Lodge, an easy hop to Two Medicine. She spent her days off hiking, backpacking, and climbing throughout the park. After teaching high school writing and speech outside Seattle, she and her husband moved to Whitefish for quick access to Glacier. She worked in the park for a decade as a hiking and backpacking guide, leading many first-time visitors to Gunsight Pass, Fifty Mountain, and Iceberg Lake. She also served on staff at Granite Park Chalet, spotting wolverines and bagging nearby peaks in her off time.Today, Becky maintains her strong link with Glacier by using her full-time writing career as an excuse to keep hiking in the park. In magazine stories, she lauds the park's trails, historic lodges, scenic drives, wildlife, and wildflowers. She tags along with biologists in the field to radio-collar bighorn sheep and grizzly bears. She also treks annually to Grinnell Glacier to write about how climate change is melting the park's ice fields. Becky serves as the western writer for On the Snow, a website that provides snow reports for ski resorts. She also writes stories for regional newspapers and national magazines such as Smithsonian and Backpacker.

Good Information on the Park but not as detailed for hiking info Guess I expected more details on the trails rather than a narrative about the park. Good info if that's what you a re looking for and the author dedicates a good portion of the book to the Canadian portion of the park BUT it wasn't quite what I was looking for.Really useful This was really useful in planning our trip to Glacier. My number one tip after the trip is - stay inside the park! You have to reserve a year in advance but it’s worth it- trust me!Great book to start planning your trip Well organized and easy to use. One of the daunting task about planning a trip to Glacier is the overwhelming amount of information that's available in print and the Internet. It's a little bit like planning a trip the Disney World for the first time. This book is very helpful in that it divides the park into the specific regions, and allows you to plan your trip based on which region you want to travel in. It lays out lodging, hiking, and activities in each of the key regions. Since the park is so huge this is a great way to approach planning your trip. As a first time traveler to Glacier, this is the first book I found that really made sense and allowed me to begin planning for a weeklong vacation. The book is a handy travel size to bring along. Some of the information in each of the sections is a little redundant.

A Gift of Fire Download

ISBN: 0134615271
Title: A Gift of Fire Pdf Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues for Computing Technology (5th Edition)
Author: Sara Baase
Published Date: 2017-02-27
Page: 560

Sara Baase is Professor Emeritus with the Department of Computer Science, San Diego State University, where she won awards for outstanding teaching. Her textbooks in computer science have been translated into several languages. Dr. Baase received her doctoral degree from the University of California, Berkeley.  Timothy M. Henry has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science from Old Dominion University, and was awarded a PhD in Applied Math Sciences from the University of Rhode Island. He began his IT career as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, and among his early tours, he was the Information Resources Manager (what is today a CIO) at the Coast Guard's training center in Yorktown, VA. Dr. Henry then switched over to education and taught mathematics and computer science courses at the U. S. Coast Guard Academy. As his time there ended, he was offered a great opportunity to work with 'bleeding-edge' technology in a research and development environment and oversaw projects for law enforcement, first responders, healthcare, and education. For the next decade he continued to work as a project manager on large corporate- or state-wide information systems. During that time, he obtained his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.  He then returned to a university setting where he has been teaching ethics, programming, cybersecurity, and project management for over 15 years. He now serves as IT Graduate Director at the New England Institute of Technology. In addition to co-authoring A Gift of Fire: Social, Legal and Ethical Issues for Computing Technology with Sara Baase, he has co-authored two data structure textbooks with Frank Carrano, Data Structures and Abstractions with Java and Data Abstractions and Problem Solving in C++: Walls & Mirrors, which won the 2016 McGuffey Longevity Award from the Textbook and Academy Authors Association.

For courses in Computer Ethics and Computers and Society.

An objective study of technology ethics that inspires critical thinking and debate

In Gift of Fire, A: Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues for Computing Technology , Sara Baase presents a balanced exploration of the social, legal, philosophical, ethical, political, constitutional, and economic implications of computing and the controversies they raise. With an objective computer scientist's perspective, and with historical context for many issues, Baase covers the issues readers will face both as members of a technological society and as professionals in computer-related fields. A primary goal is to develop computer professionals who understand the implications of what they create and how it fits into society at large. This text encourages readers to think about the ethics and philosophical direction behind topics but doesn’t them lead students to conclusions. The 5th Edition contains updated material on new topics and examples, outdated material has been removed, and several topics have been reorganized. New material appears throughout, including material on current trending topics such as drones and autonomous cars.

Great book, interesting content, overpriced for a rental Used as a rental for Computer Ethics class. It arrived brand new and was full of interesting stories. I think it was slightly overpriced for a rental or at least at the time purchased it. $101 for one semester, although the new copy had just been released. Finally, a textbook without bias! I'm being forced to read this for some college course I don't want to take and will have no future value for me but I have to say, this is a very well written textbook. Usually, textbooks involving social, legal, and ethical issues are obscenely biased and therefore impossible to read. However, as I read through A Gift of Fire, I was actually blown away by how fairly written it was. If the author has personal biases, they were kept out of this book.In a day and age where college consists mostly of having unwanted views shoved down your throat, A Gift of Fire was a breath of fresh air. Props to Sara Baase for fairly presenting multiple sides of every issue. This is the perfect example of how educational textbooks should be written.
